Scholarly Communication means the formal and informal processes through which research results and other scholarly work are disseminated to other researchers and scholars, students, policy makers and the public.

One of the most important current responses to these problems is the movement to provide unrestricted access to research articles through "open access" (OA) journals, disciplinary repositories such as PubMed Central, or local "Institutional Repositories."
