Start Date: Training will start prior to Fall Quarter.


Average 14 hours per week. Must be available Monday-Thursday evenings, weekend afternoons and holidays.


  • Provide reference service, including assisting library users in locating information resources and services, and providing orientation to and instruction in database and Internet searching.
  • Assist users with patent, trademark, standards, technical reports, andother Engineering and UW Libraries’ collections.
  • Caretaker of reference services during evenings and weekends.
  • Back up Engineering Library circulation staff and student workers whenneeded, including checking out and renewing material and placing holds.
  • May assist with preparation of library guides and web pages, perform bibliographic searching, and assist with other special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:

    • B.A./B.S. degree
    • Excellent verbal communication skills and a commitment to service
    • Familiarity with computers, searching techniques, and the Internet
    • Ability to provide reference service and work effectively with a diverse group of library users at busy reference desk
    • Inquisitiveness and initiative, including the ability to do and learn on your own
    • Persistence, as well as the capability to think fast on your feet
    • Must be able to work independently
    • Available to work evening, weekend, and/or holiday hours
    • A three quarter minimum commitment is required, 2 year commitment given preference

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Previous library experience is a plus but not required.
    • Enrolled as a graduate student in UW Information School MLIS program is desired. (1st year students encouraged to apply.)
