This is a limited duration position from March 31, 2014 to November 30, 2014.


This position provides administrative and research assistance to support work on an IMLS National Leadership Grant. The grant, entitled “National Forum on Online-Only Music: 21st Century Sound Recording Collection in Crisis,” seeks solutions to issues that the direct-to-consumer distribution of e-only music and is posing for libraries. Specific duties include:

  • Review existing literature and perform library and online research as directed on copyright, licensing, and other aspects of e-only music distribution.
  • Provide administrative, logistical, transcription, and research services in support of Music Library Association, American Library Association and National Recording Preservation Board meetings.
  • Manage the grant's communication and outreach efforts, including the creation and distribution of material that relay grant findings and raise awareness about the issue.
  • Oversee assessment of meetings, including evaluation of proposed outcomes, distribution and compilation of participant surveys, and evaluative descriptions of each event.
  • Complete or contribute to other related projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in execution of projects.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Typing 45 words per minute accurately.
  • Experience writing/editing for the web (HTML/CMS knowledge preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and perform effectively under pressure of multiple deadlines.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in music libraries and archives, copyright law, collections, and the future of libraries.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in legal, arts management, humanities, or related research.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in project planning.
  • Experience with survey or assessment design or analysis.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in working with diverse co-workers and users.

Other Details:

This is a limited duration position from March 31, 2014 to November 30, 2014.

Meeting support activities do not involve meeting attendance; schedule flexible and no travel required.
