Up to 19.5 hours per week.

Schedule to be determined; evenings, weekends, and some University holidays may be required.

Dates of employment: Position starts 16 September 2013 and continue through the academic year. Some positions may continue summer 2014 depending on funding and unit need.


  • Provides information and research service at Reference and Information service points. Includes staffing these public service desks some weekends and University holidays.
  • Participates in the Libraries' chat and email reference services.
  • Under the direction of librarians in Suzzallo and Odegaard Libraries, provides library instruction sessions to students in the Expository Writing Program and other lower-division courses.
  • Assist supervisors in coordinating reference and instruction services and projects, including scheduling, and creating online research guides and screencast tutorials.
  • Complete or contribute to other projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Successful completion of one or more courses in library reference service, comparable work experience in library reference service, or comparable work experience in information provision; or Experience in providing library instruction, successful completion of one or more courses relating to instruction, or comparable experience in teaching or training.
  • Strong public service orientation.
  • Must be available to work evenings and/or weekends and some University holidays.
  • Familiarity and comfort with searching print and electronic reference sources, and ability to perform advanced web searching.
  • Evidence of excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to juggle projects, set priorities, and work with minimal supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in one of the graduate programs in the UW Information School.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in working with a diverse user population.
  • Experience in providing direct public service in a library setting, especially at reference, information, or circulation service points.
