$16.15 per hour

Hours:

  • Up to 19.5 hours per week
  • Weekdays between 9 am - 5 pm; possible Saturday or Sunday shift. Schedule is negotiable and likely to include 2-3 days per week with shifts of 4-7 hours.

Duties:

Working under the general supervision of the Head of Reference Services, UW Tacoma Library Reference Specialists will be primarily responsible for providing one-on-one reference instruction to help library users locate and evaluate information resources. Other duties may include:

  • Updating or developing subject or class guides
  • Conducting library orientation sessions
  • Assisting librarians with classroom instruction
  • Developing library exhibits
  • Processing gift collections
  • Providing additional assistance to librarians as requested

Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
    • Passion for teaching and learning
    • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
    • Flexibility in a changing environment
    • Ability to learn new technologies quickly

      Desired Qualifications:

          • Current Enrollment in the MLIS program at the UW Information School
          • Experience providing customer/public service support in person or online
          • Experience in one-on-one instruction or classroom teaching
          • Interest in education-centered reference work

              This position is located at the UW Tacoma Campus. UW Tacoma is located in the heart of Tacoma's downtown waterfront historic district and is easily accessed by public transit. The Library and its services support undergraduate and graduate students in all phases of research.
