Although more and more resources are becoming accessible online, the Libraries continues to acquire a large amount of print material. In the past 4 years we have added more than 67,000 volumes each year. Since most of the shelving in our libraries is operationally full, we need to make room for new acquisitions by moving valuable, but lesser-used materials to our Sand Point shelving facility. During the past year library unit heads and subject liaisons have selected materials to be transferred to the facility. This summer we will begin moving these books from all UW Seattle library units to our Sand Point facility.
Volumes that are located at Sand Point can be requested through the online catalog and delivered to Suzzallo Circulation within hours or to any Seattle library unit within one or two days. Material is retrieved twice a day Monday-Saturday and once on Sunday. Over the past year we have added a weekend delivery service that provides for Saturday and Sunday deliveries to units.
We are continually looking for ways to improve delivery services for users and are currently investigating the feasibility of scanning journal articles for desktop delivery to requesters.
