Beilstein Crossfire

INTRODUCING BEILSTEIN/MDL CROSSFIRE

Beilstein/MDL Crossfire is available to all University of Washington students, faculty, and staff. Beilstein/MDL Crossfire allows users to search both the Beilstein (organic compounds) and the Gmelin (inorganic and organometalic) databases using compound identification information (e.g. chemical names, registry numbers, and more), property value(s) (e.g. melting point range) and by chemical structure. Some simple bibliographic searching can be done as well. The answer to your query is the compound(s) meeting your search requirement and all the information known about that compound. Both databases are excellent sources of property information, particularly reactions. Beilstein covers substances reviewed from 1779 and Gmelin covers substances from 1817. Crossfire is an excellent companion to CAS ONLINE.

To connect directly to this application from a UW Libraries public computer, click the following link: http://www.lib.washington.edu/asp/databases/cds/launch.asp?beilsteinCrossfirePlease Note! Access+ Users-there is a problem which will not allow you to connect to Beilstein Crossfire if you are on an Access+ machine. You can still connect frommachines in the Chemistry Library and any non-Access + machine within any UW Library. We hope the problem will be resolved quickly. (noted 4/24/07)

Another advantage of Beilstein Crossfire is that you can download the client and search from your home or office as well as from the library The latest version of the Commander software for the Mac is 6.0. PC users may use either 6.0 or the newer 7.0. Do make sure to use the the proper link if you have the MS Service Pack 2 update or not. Users connecting from off campus, must use the new portforwarder. The database is loaded on computers at the University of Wisconsin. Client software can be downloaded from there:
