Chemistry Library

Cambridge Structural Database

To access CSD in the Chemistry Library or on any Access Plus Machine, go to the start button and click on Cambridge Structural Database. Remote access to the CSD is also available. Use of Internet Explorer and Active X is required to access CSD. Access to CSD is available to UW Seattle students, faculty, and staff only.

Linking to CSD from outside of the Chemistry Library and non-Access+ machines (on or off campus)

There are two separate issues for users linking to CSD from outside the Chemistry Library. The first is the process of connecting to the database and the second is how you save data from your search. Due to security and license agreement issues, you will take an additional step. Instructions for both are listed below.

When linking to the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), several dialog boxes will appear explaining what you need to do for the process to progress correctly. For each, click O.K. If all worked properly, CSD will be launched.

Launch Cambridge Structural Database

In most cases, launching CSD will be that easy. Unfortunately, we know this isn't always the case. We are expanding access at this time so that those who can get in easily, can get in and to help sort out the problem areas. Please report problems and comments to to Chemistry Library.

Settings required to connect to CSD

To reach these settings, select from your IE pull-down menu Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites.

Remember that the above has to be done first for the ActiveX to be installed properly. Once this is installed (and you 'should' see small box that explains what is going on)properly, you can run CSD from the Chemistry Library Homepage (http://www.lib.washington.edu/chemistry/) link that is located on the left of said homepage.

To save your results: You will using a secure FTP package called WinSCP3. As you are logging in you will see a README note with instructions. PLease READ this before you go any further. If you have any problems or questions, email chemlib@u or Don Anglin for assistance.
