From the Vice Provost and Dean - June 2018

June 2018

This summer, the University of Washington will serve as the primary venue for the Special Olympics USA Games, on the 50th anniversary of the first Games, which were held at Soldier’s Field in Chicago in July 1968.  (more)

In addition to showcasing the inspiring abilities of thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities, the USA Games will model the ideals of inclusion.

On that theme, Libraries staff have created an exhibit, Disability: Rights, Recognition, Research in Allen Library North, which will run from June 23 – July 31. I hope you can stop by.

Finally, Libraries staff at Odegaard, guided by the UW community, have been collecting recommendations for books about equity, diversity, and inclusion. We are working to include these in our collection, and it’s a great list from which to select your “Summer Reads.”

Wishing you a peaceful and fulfilling summer,

- Lizabeth (Betsy) Wilson
