About the Collection

Collection Scope

The Microform & Newspaper Collections has a large current international and domestic newspaper collection, with an emphasis on Slavic, South and Southeast Asian papers and a selection of American and European papers. Current subscriptions are obtained to support classroom needs.

Extensive holdings of national and international newspapers on microfilm are also housed here, with the London Gazette, 1665, being the oldest. A large local newspaper collection is also maintained, as the basis of a cooperative preservation microfilming project with the Washington State Library.

A wide variety of major microform sets are located in this section. Examples include:

  • Early American Imprints (Evans; Shaw & Shoemaker)
  • Early English Books (Pollard & Redgrave; Wing)
  • German Baroque Literature
  • Pre-1900 Canadiana
  • Dead Sea Scrolls
  • Congressional hearings
  • Black Literature, 1827-1940
  • United Nations Documents
  • Landmarks of Science
