Services for Remote and Online Users

The University of Washington Libraries offer a vast array of online resources and services that can be accessed from anywhere in the world, as long as you are a UW student, faculty or staff member. The online resources provided on the library website are organized by topic. Your subject librarian is the person responsible for providing specialized reference and consultations in your subject area.

Getting Help Online

There are a number of ways to get help from a librarian, even if you never set foot in the library:

Finding and Connecting to Online Resources

Although the library website can be accessed by anyone, you will need to log in to access most of the electronic books, journals and databases available only to UW students, faculty and staff.

Borrowing and Requesting Materials

In the WorldCat Local catalog you can search for materials held at the UW and libraries worldwide. WorlcCat Local makes locating and requesting materials held at other libraries easy:

Stay Up-To-Date in Your Field

The following tools make it easy to keep up with current research:

  • Receive automatic email notification when new articles appear in your research area via Alert Services.

  • View New Books in the UW Libraries for your subject area.

  • Repeating the same library catalog search over and over? Save your preferred searches in your Library Account.
