Headnoise (original Slovene title Zvenenje v glavi, 90 minutes, 2002, dir. Andrej Košak) is based on the novel of the same title by one of Slovenia’s leading contemporary authors, Drago Jancar. The film won of awards for best photography, best editing, and special mention at the Third International Mediterranean Film Festival. During the hot summer of 1970, in the Ljubljana central penitentiary a convict named Keber, a legend among prisoners, negotiates with the prison warden for the prisoners to be able to watch the basketball championship between Yugoslavia and the USA on television. A provocation by a prison guard during the game causes Keber to throw the television at the prison bars, and an uprising begins in which the prisoners take over the prison. They establish a council which presents the authorities with six conditions, one of which includes showing the match again on tape…. |
