Ways of Giving
Cash, Securities
The University Libraries welcomes gifts of cash, securities, real estate, equipment and materials.

To be Used Now
Contributions may be made for current use to a Libraries fund of your choice. View Libraries funds.
You may also wish to add to an existing endowment to honor a colleague, friend, or loved one.

Or To Be Used Later
Deferred gifts can be revocable (e.g. bequest, living trust) or irrevocable (e.g. trust, gift annuity, pooled income fund).
By making an irrevocable deferred gift to benefit the Libraries, the donor may receive lifetime income, avoid capital gain, and claim a charitable income tax deduction. The Libraries will ultimately be the beneficiary of the gift.

Through a revocable deferred gift commitment, such as a bequest, the donor can experience the satisfaction of making arrangements to benefit the Libraries, yet retain the flexibility to alter them should circumstances change.

The Henry Suzzallo Society honors and recognizes individuals who have provided for such a deferred gift.

In Memory of -- In Honor of
You may honor a friend, colleague, or loved one by making a gift in the name of an individual. Please contact us for more information.

Endowments
An endowment is a permanent fund established for a specific purpose with a portion of the return generated each year used to fund current needs in an area designated by the donor. Libraries endowments can be named for a donor, designated for a family member or friend, or to honor a special professor or mentor, and can be established with cash, securities, real estate, or through a bequest.

Currently the Libraries holds over 60 endowments to support a variety of collections and interests including the Pacific Northwest, Chinese studies, health sciences, business, art, Scandinavian studies, history, and music, as well as for student scholarships, programs, collections and reference materials not otherwise funded.

The UW invests the endowments, with oversight by the Board of Regents, in the Consolidated Endowment Fund (CEF). A gift invested in the CEF will grow over the long term, creating a lasting resource that grows in perpetuity.

In-kind Gifts
In-kind gifts of items such as books, journals, manuscripts, photographs, historic maps, unique materials, etc. are also welcome, as they help develop the size, depth and diversity of our resources. The donor may elect to have such contributions independently appraised to establish value for tax purposes. Please call 206-685-1973 for information on appraised gifts and collections.

In-kind Gifts (non-appraised), such as books
If the donor is not interested in acquiring an appraisal for tax purposes, further information on how to contribute these in-kind gifts call 206-543-1859.
