Librarians adopt Open Access Policy

Welcome to a new academic year!

Decades come and go, but our mission will always be to “connect people with knowledge.”

How we do that will always be evolving.

As of September 1, 2017 Librarians at the University of Washington will publish their research guided by an Open Access Policy for UW Librarians. The new policy promotes the visibility and accessibility of their scholarly work and makes their research freely available to users.

As we move to open publishing of dissertations and theses, access to primary sources – photographs, letters penned by hand, ledgers, hand-made signs – become even more important. Our vast trove of materials and resources connect us with a time and place, and give us a glimpse into a culture and community, which may be drastically different, or very similar, to one we inhabit.

We are proud to be at the center of research and discovery, and to help the spark that ignites curious minds at the UW and beyond.
