Important Updates for Course Reserves (beginning Autumn 2022)

To improve the user experience with our course reserves services, we are implementing a  number of changes based on usage statistics and student/faculty/staff feedback. These updates are for the UW Seattle Campus only.

  • Loan periods for items will be decided by Course Reserves staff to reduce confusion and better serve user needs.
    • Textbooks and items on reserve for very large courses will be assigned 2-hour loan periods; most other items will have 24 hour loan periods.
    • DVDs will have a loan period of 72 hours.
      • As before, we cannot guarantee that movies on reserve will be available for showing on a specific date/time since other users are able to check out these materials.
      • We are unable to extend loans beyond the regular 72-hour loan period.
  • Loan periods will apply consistently across all users who wish to check out an item, including students and instructors.
  • Items will be placed on reserve for the full duration of the quarter and cannot be removed during the quarter, with the exception of personal copies.
  • Reserve Locations:
    • All 100 and 200 level materials (physical items) will be held on reserve for checkout at Odegaard Undergraduate Library.
    • 300, 400, and graduate-level materials (physical items) will be held on reserve for checkout at the location chosen by the instructor on the request form.
  • There is a 10 item limit per course. Please reach out to ugres@uw.edu to discuss potential options if you have more than 10 required items for a course.
