Creative Commons License

In alignment with our Strategic Plan to "increase access to and improve dissemination of UW scholarship" and the Open Access Policy of the Association of Librarians of the University of Washington:

CC BY-NC large iconText on the UW Libraries web pages are licensed by a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC 4.0), except where otherwise noted.

What This Means

Anyone is free to use and to adapt text with the UW Libraries Creative Commons license for non-commercial purposes as long as they provide attribution to the "University of Washington Libraries."

What is Included

This license applies to text created by UW Libraries staff and student employees that appears on pages displaying the CC BY-NC small icon CC BY-NC license.  This includes but is not limited to policies, compilations, and explanatory text.

What is Not Included

This license does not apply to content created by any person or entity outside of the UW Libraries.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Images on our webpages or in UW Digital Collections—unless the images have their own CC BY-NC icon.
  • Sound recordings
  • Databases
  • Articles from databases listed on the UW Libraries website
  • Trademarks and logos—including all UW logos
  • Content on pages without the CC BY-NC symbol
